Phishing attacks are on the increase

What is Phishing?

Phishing is a type of cyber attack in which a malicious actor attempts to trick individuals into providing sensitive information—such as usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, or other personal data—by pretending to be a trustworthy entity, often through deceptive emails, messages, or websites.

How common is Phishing?

Phishing is extremely common and remains one of the most prevalent forms of cyber crime globally. Here are some key facts and statistics to highlight how widespread it is:

Prevalence of Phishing (as of recent years):

  • Over 90% of cyber attacks begin with a phishing email (Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report).
  • Phishing attacks increased by 150% between 2019 and 2023 (varies by source).
  • In 2024, millions of phishing emails were sent daily worldwide.

Note – Small businesses and individuals are frequent targets due to lower security protections.

What are Phishing awareness campaigns?

These campaigns are designed to raise awareness of Phishing within the organisation and ultimately reduce the risk associated with Phishing attacks. The campaigns involve the use of Phishing Simulation Software to simulate attacks and report on the results.

Campaigns improve awareness and can include additional training for those individuals that fail to recognise the Phishing email that they receive.

What does the service provide?

Campaign Set-Up

We work with the client to set-up a Phishing awareness campaign based upon simulating Phishing emails.

The campaign is aligned to typical communication scenarios that the organisations would typically be involved in, making the simulation more targeted and realistic.

Campaign Delivery

You will be appointed a dedicated consultant to run the campaign.

The campaign will take place over a period of approximately two weeks.  This ensures that all the audience are not targeted and the same time, again adding the realism of the simulation.

Campaign Reporting

Once the campaign has been completed, we will deliver a report on the outcome and make recommendations based upon the result.

This may include additional training and updates to policies and procedures.

Training and Additional Services

We can provide bespoke training to support your Phishing awareness and provide this training to staff.

We can also provide additional services to improve existing policies and procedures to reduce the risk associated with Phishing attacks.

Why are these campaigns a good idea?

There are two obvious reasons why running Phishing awareness campaigns is a good idea.

Firstly, the more staff are aware of the type of Phishing attacks that can occur, the less likely they are of falling victim to real attacks.

Secondly, many cyber security insurance providers expect their customers to carryout such training to reduce the risk from this attack scenario.  We advise customers to check the requirements of their existing cyber security insurance policy.

Onboarding for this service takes approximately one week to complete.  The service is based upon a 12 month fixed term contract and is based upon the service levels below.
